Richard H. Winter, 87, of Miles, passed away, Friday, August 27, 2021 at MercyOne-Dubuque.

Funeral Services will be 1:00pm, Saturday, September 3, 2021 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the Clinton AMVETS Post #28. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00-8:00pm at the funeral home.

Richard Harold Winter was born on January 28, 1934 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Harold Clinton and Valentine “Vallie” (Bennett) Winter. He was a graduate of Clinton High School in 1952, and attended Clinton Junior College. He was drafted in the United States Navy in March of 1956; he was honorably discharged in October 1957. He married Carol Luckritz on March 8, 1964 in Clinton, Iowa.

Richard was employed at DuPont for over 32 years.

Richard was a volunteer fireman for the Miles Volunteer Fire Department, serving as Chief for 12 years, and held offices of Secretary and President. He belonged to Jackson County Fire Association, Clinton Fire Association, Iowa Fireman's Association, and the Iowa Fire Chief Association. He served on the Miles City Council, and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Clinton.

He enjoyed mowing on his John Deere mower. He enjoyed 45 years of camping, his grandkids and his dog Truffles. He enjoyed helping area farmers with their crops for many years. Enjoyed being on CB Radio with handle of "Shiner” and watching his daughter play sports in high school and college. He always helped out his daughter and especially loved it when her emergencies happened while working 3rd shift.

Richard is survived by his wife: Carol Winter of Miles, Iowa, his daughter: Shal-Marie Winter of Davenport, Iowa; and two grandchildren: Kyle Richard Winter and Jenna-Marie Dawn Winter-Johns. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his daughter: Valerie Dawn.
