James Scanlon, 86, died late Saturday at the Woodlawn convalescent home in Waterloo, where he had been a patient for two years.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, DeWitt, with the Rev. Francis P. Kelley officiating. Burial was in St. Joseph's cemetery.

James Scanlon, son of the late Michael and Mary Scanlon, was born July 3, 1877 in Ireland. He married Mary O'Neil, April 22, 1908 in St. Mary's Church in Mechanicsville. For 50 years they had been resident of the DeWitt area. Mr. Scanlon had been a city employee.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Edgar (Jane) Barrett of Waterloo and Miss Agnes Scanlon of DeWitt; two grandchildren; and one brother, Patrick of Chicago.

Mr. Scanlon was a brother of the late Mrs. P. H. Jorgenson of Lowden.
