Berdea Jane Hugunin, 99 of Camanche, IA, died Sunday, April 25, 2021 at Park Vista, Camanche, surrounded by loved ones, following a brief illness. Services will be held at 1:00PM, Saturday, May 29, 2021 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Camanche. The family will receive friends from 11:00AM until the service hour Saturday, May 29, 2021 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. The Camanche Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be expressed by visiting snellzornig.com. A celebration of Berdea’s life will be held from 3:00PM to 6:00PM at the downstairs Patio of the Candlelight Inn immediately following the service, everyone is welcome.
Berdea Jane Thiede was born January 23, 1922 in rural Jackson County Iowa, the daughter of John G. and Elsie Anna Sophia (Schlemma) Thiede. Berdea was a 1939 graduate of Preston High School and a 1943 graduate of the Jane Lamb School of Nursing, Clinton. She had been employed as a registered nurse at Jane Lamb Hospital and Medical Associates and helped with the births of thousands of babies.
Berdea married Robert William Hugunin March 22, 1944 in Preston, Iowa; Robert died January 4, 2003.
She was a charter member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Camanche, Order of the Eastern Star and Beta Sigma Pi.
Survivors include her children, Beth Ann and Kenneth Campshure of Fond du Lac, WI; Boni Hugunin and John Grau of Camanche, IA; William and Rhonda Hugunin of Camanche, IA; and Brenda and Mark Metzger of Rochester, MN; grandchildren, Morgan and Adam Campshure-Scott, Graham and Kim Campshure, Erich and Lauren Hugunin, Ellis and Jennifer Hugunin, Noah and Kasey Metzger, Nate and Judy Metzger, Samantha and Dexter Kemmet and Austin and Beth Stoltz and 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Vincent and Carroll Thiede and sister, Eloise DeHart.
Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Camanche or to Genesis Hospice.
