The Clinton Herald Thursday March 15, 1990 p. 14 Word has been recieved of the death of Dr. Charles R. Mallary, 85, of Modesto, formerly of Clinton, who died March 11 in Modesto. Dr. Mallary was born June 29, 1904, in Clinton, to John and Bridget Behon Mallory. He married Helen Norvelle in 1933. She died in 1982. He was a 1923 graduate of St. Mary's and attended St. Ambrose College and graduated from the University of Iowa School of Medicine in 1931. He interned at Public Health SErvice Hospital, Norfolk, Va., and served in various hospitals, including Manila and Hong Kong. In 1961, he was commissioned Assistand Surgeon General by President J.F. Kennedy, retired in 1964 after 33 years of government service. Survivors include three sons, John Gilmore of Seattle, Wash., Charles of Anchorage, Alaska, and Michael of San Romas, Calif., two sisters, Catherine Lynch of Vero Beach, Fla., and Marial Verboom of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a brother, Euguene Mallary of Minnesota; and several grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
