John P. Green passed away at 6 o'clock last evening at the home of his daughter, Mrs. S G Hinton, 908 N Tenth St, Lyons, after an illness of many years' duration.
Mr. Green was born in Round Grove, Illinois, August 26, 1856, the son of John and Ann Green. He received his education at Lynn Creek school at Fenton, Illinois. Later in life he went farming. In 1878 he was united in marriage to Calla A. Marren of this city. He was section foreman for the C. B. & Q. railway for nine years and was also in the employ of the D. R. I. at LeClaire and Camanche for three years. In 1898 he was transferred to the Milwaukee at Shaumult [sic], Montana, and was in this service until 1916 when he met with a painful accident in a wreck. Since then his health gradually failed. He submitted to two serious operations.
Left to mourn the passing of a beloved husband and father are his wife Celia Maren Green, three daughters, Mrs. Maurice Knudson of Forsythe, Montana, Mrs. Clarence Hinton of Lyons and Mrs. Hazel Duncan of Camanche and a son Walter, also three sisters and two brothers, 20 grandchildren. A brother George preceded him in death two years ago.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday morning at 9 o’clock at St. Patrick’s church. Burial will be made in the cemetery at Round Grove, Illinois.
