"The many friends of J. H. Bielenberg in Toronto and vicinity were shocked when the news reached us of the sudden death of our former citizen and business man at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Schroeder, Monday evening.
Funeral services were held at the home Wednesday afternoon conducted by Rev. Vollmer, of Lost Nation, after which the remains were laid to rest in the family lot by the side of his wife in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Pall bearers were J. H. Bielenberg, Henry Schutt, Henry Tebbe, Gurt Muhl, J. O. Devitt and N. J. Edwards, all of Toronto.
A large concourse of friends turned out to show their last respects. John Henry Bielenberg was born May the 16th, in Schleswig, Holstein, Germany. He was married to Miss Dora Hagge in 1875, to this union were born seven children, two of whom preceded him in death. They came to America in 1886, landing in Davenport, where he worked in a factory one year and then moved to a farm near LeClaire, where they lived several years. Later they moved near Walcott, and then moved to Durant, where Mr. Bielenberg held a position as stock buyer for Kohr's Packing Co. In 1893 they moved to Toronto where he bought grain and live stock and was a extensive stock feeder. In 1898 his wife passed away, and in 1906 he retired from business in Toronto and made a trip back to Germany for a visit. Returning he went to Canada. After his return he made his home in Davenport until two years ago he returned to Toronto and has since made his home with his daughter, Mrs. John Schroeder, until his sudden death on Nov. 27th, 1922 at the age of 72 years, 6 months and 17 days.
He leaved to mourn him five daughters, several grandchildren and one great grandchild. His daughters are as follows:
Miss Bertha Bielenberg, of Independence;
Mrs. Herman Horstman, of Toronto;
Mrs. John Schroeder, of Lost Nation;
Mrs. John Claussen, of Wheatland, and
Mrs. George Dixon, of Omaha, Nebr.
Mr Bielenberg leaves a host of friends here who join us in extending sympathy to the family in their hour of bereavement." (Source Unknown)
