Thomas F. Hayes, III, age 81 of Clinton, passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2020 at the University of Iowa Hospitals. There will be no visitation. A Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, October 28th at Prince of Peace Parish. Masks will be required for those attending. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Tom was born in Clinton on January 16, 1939, the son of Thomas F. and Mary Alice (Scanlan) Hayes, Jr. He graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1957. Tom married Martha Koolbeck on June 21, 1969 at St. Mary's Church in Clinton. He was a Building Trades Journeyman as a plumber and pipefitter at Plumbers and Pipefitters Local #25 in Rock Island. He retired from the John Deere Moline Works in 1999 after 23 years of service. He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish. He enjoyed working on cars, going on car rides and trips to Chicago, and fishing and camping with his kids when they were younger. In later years he loved to take Sunday drives.
Tom is survived by his wife Martha; 2 sons, John Thomas Hayes and Patrick Joseph Hayes both of Clinton; 2 sisters, Mary Morris and Helen Hayes Jirak (Tom) both of Golden Valley, MN; 2 sisters-in-law and 11 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Michael in 2005. Memorials in Tom's name may be made to Prince of Peace Parish or School, Crisis Pregnancy Center, Pathway Living Center or the charity of your choice.
