Samuel R. Harmon Sr., 93, of Clinton, Iowa passed away peacefully at the Alverno on Monday, September 14, 2020. Private family services will take place on Thursday, September 17, 2020. Burial occurs at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.
Samuel was born June 30, 1927 in Wilmington, North Carolina, the son of Carl and Virginia (Bennett) Harmon. He graduated from Broad Street High School in Burlington, North Carolina. Following High School, he acquired a 4-year technical degree in design & drafting.
He was a veteran of WWII - serving in the U.S. Navy.
Samuel was united in marriage to Peggy Layton on May 23, 1948 in Conway South, Carolina.
He worked as a Manufacturing Engineer for Cerlist Diesel, Beeline Co., and the Savanna Army Depot. He was a member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and was a member of the AMVETS.
Samuel loved playing golf and was a member of Valley Oaks and the Fulton County Club. He also enjoyed golfing during the winter stays in Florida and Alabama. He also enjoyed music, especially singing and playing his guitar. Above all, he loved his family very much and will be greatly missed.
Samuel is survived by his children - Samuel (Cyndi) Harmon Jr., Sandy (George Jr.) Sills and Jeff (Julie) Harmon; with nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; one brother - Carl Harmon Jr. with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, wife - Peggy, one daughter - Sheree and one sister - Pauline.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made at a future benefit event.
