David J. Jansen passed away on April 2, 2020 at Iowa City Hospitals, Iowa City, Iowa after a long battle of physical therapy in skilled care at Manor Care in Davenport. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at 2:30pm at the Eagle Point Park Lodge in Clinton, IA. The service will be conducted by Pastor Dennis Glew and a luncheon provided after by the family at the Lodge. We will be able to view the river, a place David loved best, as we remember his life. Cremation rites were accorded per his wishes and there will be no graveside at this time. The Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home has assisted the family with arrangements.
David was born on November 6, 1944 in Mason City, Iowa, the son of Ray and Ruby (Portis) Jansen. He was a graduate of Neumann High School in Mason City, a student of NIACC and completed his apprenticeship with the Ironworker Local #111 Quad City Builder's Association in May of 1968. He continued working as a Local # 111, Rock Island ironworker also serving as president, recording secretary and as a delegate to the International Ironworkers Convention. David served as Local #111's business manager from 1989 - 1996. He then worked for the Ironworkers Pension and Trust Fund for the regional office out of Lansing, Illinois from 1996 until his retirement in June 2008.
David married Arica Doggett on January 24, 1976 in Dubuque, Iowa.
Survivors include his wife, Arica of Clinton, IA; children, Phong (Nhung Bui) Pham of Iowa City, IA and Ben Jansen of Hadley, MA; granddaughters Key of Chicago, IL and Ty of Iowa City, IA; goddaughter Olivia Othon of Clinton, IA; sister Jeanne (Dick) Moorehead and brother Gary (Dana) Jansen of Mason City, IA; sister-in-law, Cherryl (Rollin) Nothwehr, Lafayette, IN and brother, Gordon Doggett, St. Louis Park, MN. David is also survived by eighteen nieces and nephews and a multitude of great nieces and nephews from all over our country.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Bonnie Bulow of Minneapolis, MN.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials are made to Riverbend Foodbank or a charity of your choice.
