Michael (Mike) Leon Shannon, 79, of Clinton, Iowa passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 22nd at Mercy One Hospital in Clinton. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, our fears for the safety of all have been very real. To protect you and your loved ones, we have decided to postpone having a celebration of life for Mike. A private service and burial will be held at the Miles Cemetery at 2 PM on Saturday, September 5th. Thank you for your understanding. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Mike graduated from Clinton High School and then attended the University of Wyoming. After that, he was drafted and served for his country as an Army Ranger where he was stationed in Germany from 1963-1965. After serving, Mike was employed at DuPont for 38 years. Retiring in 2000, Mike had 20 incredible years to enjoy his favorite things. He loved to travel, in which he was fortunate to visit his daughter and son-in-law in Maui, Hawaii seven times. He also enjoyed spending winters in Arizona and Florida. Other than traveling, Mike loved to watch golf, and many other sports including the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Dallas Cowboys, and the St. Louis Cardinals (you will never see a Cubs sign at the Shannon house). Although he enjoyed these things, his greatest joy was following the athletics and school activities of his five grandchildren. Sometimes that was a full time job in itself.

Mike is survived by his wife Kathy (Kuhl) Shannon for 55 years and two loving and caring children, Roberta (Keith) Holman of Osceola, Wisconsin and Daniel (Nicki) Shannon of Clinton, Iowa and their children Casey, Molly and Cole Shannon and Makena and Carson Holman. Mike is also survived by his sister Darlene Kuehl and brothers Edward and John Shannon. He is preceded in death by his parents Leonard and Rosemary Shannon, sisters Bernice and Teresa Shannon and Pat Judge, and brothers Richard and Robert Shannon.

Condolences, cards, and memorials can be sent to Mike’s wife, Kathy, at 1809 8th Avenue South, Clinton, IA 52732. You can also share fond memories and condolences at www.papefh.com. A Mike Shannon Memorial Fund is being established.

Our family wants to extend a special thank you to the Mercy One CCU nursing staff for their passionate and loving care. Their level of care was priceless to our family. Thank you.
