Monica E. Green, 87, of DeWitt, died Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 11, 2020, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

Monica Evelyn Hahn was born Dec. 21, 1932, at home in Grand Mound to the late Harry and Ursula (Kaeferstein) Hahn. Monica was raised in Grand Mound and graduated from St. Joseph High School, DeWitt. On Nov. 27, 1952, she was united in marriage to Howard Raymond Green at Saints Philip and James Catholic Church, Grand Mound. Monica was a homemaker raising their eight children. In later years she worked candling eggs at Harksen Egg Farm, was a Nurses Aid at Westwing Place, DeWitt and finished by working at Barnes Foodland, DeWitt retiring in 1997. She cared for her mother and then later Howard during his tri-weekly dialysis treatments. Howard preceded Monica in death, Feb. 13, 2011.

She was a member of Saints Philip and James Catholic Church, Grand Mound, the Altar and Rosary Society as well as a Bible study and rosary group with neighbors and friends. Monica loved cooking for family and having everyone over for the holidays and other events. She crocheted blankets for her 21 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Monica even made sure Owen Green, born August 1st received his blanket. She made over 100 prayer shawls for family, friends and people who needed prayers. Above all, Monica loved spending time with her family.

Surviving are her children, Veronica Gruby of Davenport and her son Micheal Gruby; Howard (Linnea) Green of Greenfield, Indiana, and their sons, Matthew (Ashley) Green and children, Adeline and Everett, Rodney (Jody) Green and their, daughter, Taia, Luke Green, Adam (Jena) Green and his daughter Eleanor Rippy; Anita (Doug) Stearns of Long Grove and their children, Jeremiah (Jacquelyn) Stearns and sons, Matthew, Nolan and Russell and Michele (Deric) Olson; Christine (Bill) Spain of Charlotte and their children, Julie (Matt) Olson and children, Ryan, Kara and Tommy, Laura (Casey) Howe and children, twins, Jaxon and Zoe and Zara, Kevin (Ashleigh) Spain and children, Kree and Kora and Melissa (Travis) Eversmeyer and children, Kenzie and Will; Sharon (Mike) Bube of Nashville, Indiana, and their daughters, Stephanie Bube, Sarah Bube, Sherry (Nathaniel) Binversie and daughters, Lucia and AnnaSophia, Jeanette (Matt) Molina, Jennifer Bube and Jamie Bube; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Green of Lewiston, Minnesota; Paul (Christine) Green of DeWitt and their daughter, Adrianne (Jacob) LaMarche and daughters Jaelynn, Lillian, and Isabelle; Andrew (Maria) Green of Walcott, and their children, Colette (Chris) Brockman and children, Ava, Ryan and Max and Nicholas (Keeley) Green and sons, Noah and Owen; siblings, George (Joan) Hahn of Vinton, Madonna (Bill) Glasz of Henderson, Nevada and Dorothy (John) Enright of Goose Creek, South Carolina; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mary Ann Hahn of Grand Mound, Bonnie Hahn of Henderson, Nevada, Margaret Claeys of DeWitt, Grace Kinney and Arlene Green of Grand Mound, Frances Burke of DeWitt, Frank Green of Fort Myers, Florida and Sister Ida Mae Green, OSF of Chicago, Illinois; nieces and nephews.

Also preceding Monica in death were her son, Gerard; her son-in-law, Bill Gruby; sisters, brothers and in-laws, Sister M. Dolores Hahn, BVM, Margaret and Wayne Harksen, Clarice and Charles Goodall, James Hahn, Vincent and Regina Hahn, Rita and George Claeys, Bernadette and Joe Wisor and Donald Hahn; Harold Green, Louie Green, Clarence Kinney, Joseph and Joan Green, Robert Burke, Dora Green; aunts, Sister M. Vincentia Kaeferstein, BVM, Margaret Staats and Jeanne Bloom; uncles, William Kaeferstein, Hugh Kaeferstein and Carl Kaeferstein.

The family received relatives and friends at Saints Philip and James Catholic Church, Grand Mound Saturday, Aug. 15, 2020, with a Rosary at 9:00 a.m. A Funeral Mass was held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Fr. Francis Odoom officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials are suggested to Saints Philip and James Church in Grand Mound, Calvary Cemetery, Grand Mound and Clarissa C. Cook Hospice or your favorite charity in Monica E. Green’s name.

Grandchildren served as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers.
