Engineer Clyde R. Sutton of the Chicago & Northwestern, on of the most widely known and high respected of Clinton's railroad men, passed away at Mercy hospital Sunday noon. His death was due to complications which followed an injury he sustained on October 15th.

The funeral is to be held from the family home, 532 Sixth Avenue, on Wednesday, the exact time having not been announced today.

Intelligence of Mr. Sutton's death brought sincere sorrow to many friends through this city Sunday. The deceased was born in Lyons on February 28th, 1862. He was educated in the Clinton public schools, and graduated from the High school with the class of 1879, entering the employ of the Chicago & Northwestern as fireman in September 1884. In 1888 he was promoted to the position of engineer, which position he held up to the time of his death.

The accident, which resulted in his death, was the first injury he had ever suffered during his long and successful career as a Northwestern engineer. It occurred west of Quarry, Iowa, when a projection from a passing freight train struck Mr. Sutton on the arm, shattering the bones and lacerating the flesh. He was taken to Marshalltown and later to this city and conveyed to Mercy hospital for treatment. Complications developed, which resulted fatally at the time stated.

Mr. Sutton is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Pauline Root, two brothers, C. N. Sutton and L. F. Sutton, and aunt, Mrs. E. S. Molinaux, an uncle, Joseph G. Sutton, and a brother-in-law, Wm. G. Haun.

He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, was chief engineer and also chairman of the grievance committee. He also was affiliated with Western Star Lodge, No. 10, A. F. and A. M.
