Catherine E. Dermody, age 82 of Clinton, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at her home. A Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at Prince of Peace Parish. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM Saturday at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Catherine's grandchildren and Mike Lyons. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family. Memorials may be made to the Jack and Catherine Dermody Prince of Peace Scholarship Fund.
Catherine was born in Clinton on June 18, 1937, the daughter of Eugene J. and Ethel M. (Zeller) Boyle. She graduated from Clinton High School and later from Mt. St. Clare College. Catherine married Jack Dermody on June 29, 1957 in Clinton. Jack passed away on February 11, 2000. Catherine taught school at St. Mary's Grade School and also at St. Mary's High School. She worked part time at Guzzardo's for many years. She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish. She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren, gardening and working outside, and was an avid reader.
Catherine is survived by two children; Steve (Jeanne) Dermody of Waukesha, WI and Lisa Gilbert of Minneapolis; 4 grandchildren, Michael (Gena) Dermody, Britani Gilbert, Caitlin Dermody and Abby Dermody; two sisters, Diane (Bud) Phillis of Rock Island and Ruth Ann Thomas of Cedar Rapids and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack; a sister, Dorothy Machovic and a brother, Jim Boyle. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com.
