PROMINENT WOMAN DIES IN HOSPITAL
Miss Bertha Griswold Passes Away Sunday Evening at Mercy Hospital.
Miss Bertha Griswold, aged 60 years, and a sister of the late Stark Griswold, passed
away Sunday evening in Mercy hospital here. Miss Griswold was a resident of this county
in Elk River township at the time of her death and was the owner of considerable property
and land there. She has hosts of friends who will mourn her death. Funeral services have
been arranged for Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock and will be conducted in the Grace
Episcopal church in Lyons by Rev. Wilbur S. Leete, rector. The body is now lying in
the W. E. Cook home, 1203 Eighth avenue, Clinton, and will remain there until the day
of the funeral. Interment will be in the cemetery at Almont.
Miss Griswold was born in Elk River township on October 28, 1842, and has resided
on a farm near Elk River Junction since that time. Stark Griswold, a well known Clinton
county farmer and brother of the deceased, died about a year ago in Mercy hospital here.
Miss Griswold had been in Mercy hospital for several weeks before her death.
The nearest relatives left to mourn Miss Griswold's death are D. A. Sheppard, a cousin,
and Wesley Cook, an uncle, both of Clinton; and also Edward Cook of Elwood.
