David J. Pothof, age 26 of Clinton, passed away Friday, May 29, 2020 at Mercy One. Cremation rites have been accorded. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 1:00 to 3:00 PM on Saturday, June 13, 2020 at the Pape Funeral Home. At 3:00 PM the family will be going to the river to visit David’s favorite fishing spot for a balloon release and then over to Time Out for a Celebration of Life.

David was born in Iowa City on December 3, 1993, the son of Eugene and Dena (McClain) Pothof. He graduated from Clinton High School where he was a member of the Clinton High Bowling Team. David was employed by ESB at Ralston Purina. He enjoyed playing pool, fishing, camping, music, socializing with friends and family, and having a variety of hats. He loved to give hugs, helping others, spending time with his nieces and cousins and following the Green Bay Packers, Blackhawks, Bulls and Cubs.

David is survived by his mother, Dena McClain of Clinton; his father, Geno Pothof of Clinton; his brother, Dominic Cooper of Clinton; grandparents, Penny (Fred) Orth, Roberta Stierman and Elmer and Lorna Pothof all of Clinton; his great grandmother, Patricia (Joe) Murty of Clinton; his God Parents, Jason Hess and Amy (Brad) Schindal-Johnson and nieces, cousins, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, James McClain and his great grandparents. Memorials may be made to the family. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com.
