Richard L. Happel age 84 of Clinton, passed away Tuesday June 2, 2020 at his home. Cremation rites have been accorded and a Celebration of Life Gathering will be held 5:00 - 7:00 PM Friday June 12th at the Pape Funeral Home. At a later date a memorial service will be held. In Richard's memory please give memorials to the Greater Iowa Chapter Alzheimer Association. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com.
Richard was born on Nov. 5, 1935 in Cedar Rapids, IA, the son of Harold and Lois (Ward) Happel. He served in the US Air Force from 1954-1958. He married Betty Knapp on Sept. 4, 1985 in Dubuque, IA. He was an insurance agent for Allstate Insurance in Clinton for 47 years. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids and the First Congregational Church in Clinton. He was a Boy Scout Troop Leader in both Clinton and Cedar Rapids for many years. He enjoyed going to swap meets, classic cars, fishing, and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan.
Richard is survived his wife, Betty Happel of Clinton; six children, Penny (Steve) Miller of Chicago, IL, Robert (Lee) Baker of Angola, IN, David (Christine Knoepsel) Baker of Milwaukee, WI, Douglas (Anne) Happel of Connecticut, Robert (Diane) Happel of Ft. Dodge, IA, and Wendy Happel of Marion, IA; eight grandchildren, Emily, Kate, Molly, Jessica, Samantha (Justin), Tara, Alyssa, and Joshua; two brothers, Don (Janice) Happel of Hiawatha, IA and Steve (Syd) Happel of Osage Beach, MO; and a sister, Susan (Roger) Ronsen of Savage, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
