Maquoketa, Ia., April 15--Jeremiah Bennis of Delmar passed away at 6:15 Tuesday evening, aged 77 years, 2 months and 13 days, being born Feb. 1st, 1838, and died after only four days illness. Saturday morning he had a paralytic stroke, and never recovered, but was conscious to the last. Born in Ireland, he came to southern Ohio at the age of 13, and came to Delmar in the spring of 1867, and lived on a farm until 1899, when he retired and moved to town. Mr. Bennis leaves a widow and six children to mourn his death, three boys and three girls, Mrs. H. Scott, Mrs. Chas. H. Bloom, Mrs. Peter Hoffman, Joe and James at home, and Charles, who lives on the old homestead west of Delmar. Also one brother, James in town, and one sister, Mrs. Coughlin of Urbana, Ohio. Mr. Bennis was a thrifty straightforward man--possessed of sterling qualities and respected by those who knew him. Funeral services will be held at St. Patrick's church at 9:30 Friday morning, Rev. Father O'Riley officiating. Interment in St. Patrick's cemetery, Delmar.
