April 8, 1915 - The Clinton Advertiser page 6

The funeral service of Miss Mary M. Stanley was held at the home on South Fourth street, at 2:30 p.m. A large circle of friends and acquaintances were present to pay their last tribute of love and respect to her memory.

The exercises were conducted by her pastor, Rev. N. A. McAulay, who was assisted by Mrs. Fischer and Miss Lundy, who sang two very appropriate selections.

The pall bearers were Messrs. C. H. Satow, Dr. Geo. Hofstetter, Ira Armstrong, L. C. Moszinger, M. J. Gabriel and Dr. H. P. Fischer. The service was brief, but appropriate, after which the following obituary was read.

Miss Mary M. Stanley, daughter of Joseph and Mary Stanley, was born in Natick, Mass. July 26, 1850. Soon after the civil war the family came west to Lyons, where with the exception of two years spent in Illinois, she has since resided. She was the oldest of four children. Her brother, Charles, and her sister, Nellie, together with her father, passed away many years ago, and her mother on March 20, 1912, leaving her sister, Miss Ida, now the only surviving member of the family.

Miss Stanley became a Christian very early in life, and united with the Baptist church. After coming to Lyons on March 5, 1876, she transferred her membership to the Presbyterian church of this city, of which she has been a loyal and devoted member.

Physically she has never been strong. Before her mother's death three years ago, she had had a severe attack of illness of which she recovered in part, but which returned from time to time, leaving her in a weakened condition. The end came very peacefully on Tuesday last when she quietly passed away to the Spirit world. Less than two hours before the change came, she united with her pastor in repeating the Twenty-third Psalm, proving that her faith was strong and her mind clear to the last.

She was a woman greatly beloved by a large circle of friends and neighbors. She dearly loved her church, and was never absent from its services when able to attend. The sympathies of this entire community are extended to her sorrowing sister.
