Mrs. Clarissa B. Brown died at the home of her son, W.L. Brown, in West Bend, IA last Friday the 16th of old age. Mrs. Brown lived in Monticello for about twenty years previous to sixteen months ago when she went to West Bend to make her home with her son. She has hosts of friends here, who will regret to hear of her death.
Mrs. Brown was 78 years 1 month and 26 days old. Her maiden name was Page and she was born at Binghamton, NY December 21, 1821. At the age of 11 she moved with her father to Delaware County, OH where she was married 12/1/1840. In 1854 Mr and Mrs. Brown came to Iowa and settled in Clinton County, and in the fall of the same year Mr. Brown died. Mrs. Brown returned to Ohio with her children where she remained for 5 years. They then came back to Iowa and lived in Clinton until 1878 when they came to Monticello.
Mrs. Brown was the eldest of her family and the last one to died. She was the mother of three children, two of whom survive. They are Mrs. William Ralston of Monticello and Mr. W.L. Brown of West Bend. The funeral was held at West Bend last Sunday and the remains were buried beside those of her husband at Toronto, Clinton County, Last Monday.
