Alice M. Caes, 91, formerly of Durant, died Thursday, April 7, 2011, at Wheatland Manor in Wheatland.

Alice Mary Timmerman was born April 27, 1919, in Clinton County, the daughter of August and Veronica (Vlaeminck) Timmerman. She married August Dezere Caes on January 4, 1941, in Toronto. During World War II, she worked at John Deere in Moline, Illinois. After her marriage, she and August farmed in Scott County for many years, until their retirement. August preceded her in death on August 9, 1963. She was a longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Wilton, and their Altar and Rosary Society. She was a former member of the Scott County Farm Bureau and the Dixon American Legion Auxillary. She volunteered with Hospice and was active in Right to Life. She enjoyed flower gardening, sewing, fishing, baking bread and rolls, Scrabble and playing cards. Above all, she loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them.

She is survived by five daughters, Veronica Welsh of Waukegan, IL, Florence (Bob) Cruse of Sayville, NY, Nancy (Ralph) Montrone of Burlington, Suzanne (Mark) Porth of Mount Pleasant, and Julianne (Dale) Fischer of Maysville; three sons, Kenneth (Joan) Caes of Marengo, John (Jane) Caes of New Liberty, and Tom Caes of Wilton; 29 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Jennie Goethals of Bennett.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. two sons, Richard L. Caes and August W. Caes, one son-in-law, Chuck Welsch, one sister, Zelma Goethals, and two brothers, Leon and Julius Timmerman.
