MRS. PATRICK O'CONNELL

Mrs. Patrick (Hannah) O'Connell, 100, Cascade's eldest resident, died Saturday morning at 9:15 o'clock, at her home 2 miles south of town. Funeral services for the deceased were held from the home Tuesday morning at 9:30 to St. Peter's Church, Temple Hill. A Solemn Requiem High Mass. Celebrated by Rev. Wm. Leonard, a relative and assistant pastor of Sacred Heart parish, Waterloo. Rev. Eugene Lorenz, former pastor at Temple Hill, and now of Monticello, as deacon, and Rev. H. N. Ginter, present pastor of St. Peter's, was offered for the repose of her soul. Rev Ginter preached the sermon and officiated at the graveside.

Mrs. O'Connell was born May 17, 1849 at Agelo, near Toronto, Ontario, Canada, a daughter of Cornelius and Maria Welsh. At the age of 15, or 85 years ago, she came to this community. For a number of years she taught school in Jackson county.

In 1867 she was united in Holy Matrimony with Patrick O'Connell in St. Patrick's Church, North Garryowen. To this union were born 12 children, 6 of whom survive. They are John, of Waverly; Timothy, Cascade; Patrick, Bernard; William and Frank, Cascade; one daughter, Mrs. Annetta Hirtz, Cascade. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband and 6 children.

Mrs. O'Connell was a member of St. Peter's Parish, Temple Hill, and its Rosary society. Last May 7 when Mrs. O'Connell observed her 100th birthday, the pastor of St. Peter's Fr H. N Ginter, celebrated Holy Mass at her home.

Pallbearers were Joe and Paul Hirtz, Frank Fah, John Felton, Melvin, James Patrick and Edmund O'Connell.

Funeral arrangements were in charge of Devaney & Son.
