Larry L. Carpenter, 69, of Clinton, passed away Friday, August 23, 2019 at ManorCare in Davenport.
A Gathering of Friends will be Wednesday, August 28, 2019 from 6:00-8:00pm at the Stubborn Mule, 252 Main Avenue - Clinton . The Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory assisted the family. Online condolences may be expressed by visiting his obituary at www.snellzornig.com.
Larry Lee Carpenter was born on October 9, 1949 in Clinton, Iowa the son of Vinson and Donna Bumann Carpenter. He would later be raised by his step-father Louis "Mick" Grinnall and his mother Donna.
Larry was a 1967 graduate of Clinton High School and served in the United States Army from 1968-1970 during Vietnam. He received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.
Larry was a car salesman for over 32 years working at Clinton Lincoln Mercury and currently at Clinton Auto Group.
Larry enjoyed hot air ballooning, serving on the Sweetheart Bakery Balloon Crew, volunteering for Balloons in June, and the Clinton Historical Society. He was a former member and Past Master of the Lyons Masonic Lodge #93.
Larry is survived by 3 sisters: Lynda Carpenter Griffith, Marion, IL, and twins, Karen Carpenter Thomsen (James) Tate, Clinton, IA, Sharon Carpenter (Warren) Vaughan, Tulsa, OK. Two half- sisters, Lou Ann Carpenter Stahl (Al Petersen) Brooklyn Park, MN, Sandra Carpenter (Chris) Bayer, New Lennox, IL. Three half brothers, Michael (Julie) Carpenter, Clinton, IA, Steve Carpenter, Alliance, NE and Michael (Mary) Grinnall of Clinton, IA, many nieces and nephews and very special friends Mark and Becky Regenwether, Tom Eble and Paul Schneider.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
