Charlotte, Ia., Jan. 21--On January 13th occurred the death of Mrs. Peter Hoffman at the age of 79 years, 10 months and 24 days. Martha Paulsen was born at Langhorn, Schleswig Holstein, Germany Feb. 19, 1835. She was married to Peter Hoffman in 1861, and in 1873 they came to this country and settled in Clinton county. Mr. Hoffman died in 1901 and since that time Mrs. Hoffman has made her home with her oldest daughter, Mrs. Chris Soenksen. She leaves to mourn her loss the following children: Mrs. Chris Soenksen, Mrs. Gus Jaeger, Mrs. Bahne Hoffman of DeWitt, Jacob of Clinton, Chris of Delmar and Ben of Charlotte, and Mrs. Herman John of Princeton. She also leaves thirty-five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, one brother in Oregon, one brother in Muscatine, Iowa, one sister in Wisconsin. She was a lifelong member of the German Lutheran church. The funeral was held Friday at 10 o'clock from the home of Mr. and Mrs. Chris Soenksen, where Rev. G. Jobst preached the funeral sermon. Interment was made in the Rossiter cemetery. Pall bearers were John Stamp, Theo. Jochinsen, John Brandenburg, Henry Knudsen, John Meggers and Louis Levsen.
