Lost Nation, Ia., Oct. 17--Augusta Hansen was born March 12, 1853, at Richtenberg, near Stralsund, Pmerania, Germany. In her infancy she was baptized and after being instructed was confirmed. In 1871 she came to this country with her parents, making her home at Wheatland. The following spring they moved to Lost Nation, locating on the Wm. Pithan place. In 1873 she was united in marriage with Henry Pithan, which union was blessed with three children, the youngest dying when an infant.
Two weeks after the death of this babe, on the 9th of April, 1877, her husband died. Five years later she was married to Charles Hansen, moving with him to Dakota, and after two years, returned to this community. To this union one son was born. She had been ailing some time, before her death, yet was able to be about until a few weeks ago, when she had to rest most of the time in a chair. She sought relief for her ailment whenever possible, but without results. A week ago, expecting her end, she called on the pastor, wishing to prepare for the end and to strengthen herself for the final summons. She passed away a week later, Thursday, Oct. 11th. She is survived by two sons, Wm. Pithan and Tony Hansen; six grandchildren, Henry, Velda, Glatha and Irvin Pithan, Viola and Beulah Hansen, and four sisters, Mrs. Henry Busch, Mrs. B. Wegner, Mrs. E. Knak, Mrs. C. Rutenbeck, and two brothers, William and Fred Busch. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the Lutheran church, Rev. Vollmer taking the text, 1 Corinthians, 15:55: "O Death, Where is They Sting? O, Grave, Where Is Thy Victory? But Thanks Be to God, Which Giveth Us the Victory Through Our Lord, Jesus Christ." The choir, composed of Mrs. Langhorst, Edna Schultz, Henry Burrichter and H. Dobling, sang "Schen Wir Uns Wohl Einmal Wieder" and "Nearer My God To Thee." The pallbearers were her nephews ?, H. Busch, Dick Busch, Edwin Rutenbeck, Alvin Rutenbeck and Arthur Schultz.
