15 October 1917 - The Clinton Advertiser

Charles H. McDonald, former city assessor, and a long time and highly respected resident of this city, passed away at 12:15 o'clock Sunday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A. W. Anderson, 832 Stockholm street. Intelligence of Mr. McDonald's death was received with regret by his hundreds of friends throughout Clinton.

The deceased was born in Bolton, New York, on May 27th, 1848. In the year 1879 he came west to Iowa and in 1886 to Clinton, where for many years he had been a well known and esteemed resident.

For many years Mr. McDonald was chief inspector of the Western Railway Inspection Bureau leaving that service four years ago, when he was elected assessor of the city of Clinton. He served in that office in an able and efficient manner for two years. During the past two years Mr. McDonald had been a sufferer from heart trouble.

The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon. Services will be conducted by the Masons with which order he was identified, at 2:30 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Anderson, and interment will follow in Springdale cemetery.

Surviving the deceased are his wife, nee Miss Etta Pike, with whom he was united in marriage before coming west; his daughter, Mrs. Anderson, and six grandchildren.

The funeral of the late Charles McDonald was held this afternoon from the residence of his daughter, Mrs. A. W. Anderson, on Stockholm street, Rev. M. J. Locke, pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal church officiating. Interment was in Springdale.

Mrs. Hammarstrom rendered two vocal selections during the service. At the cemetery members of Western Star Lodge, A.F. & A.M. had charge of the service.

The pall bearers were Jens Bohnson, John J. Tompkins, F. M. Fort, W. H. Poston, George B. Phelps and George H. Backus.
