13 February 1936 - The Lowden News

Word was received here this morning of the death of Fred Rowald, 68, a brother of Conrad Rowald of Lowden, who died at 5:10 p.m. yesterday in his home in Wheatland.

While down town in the evening, he had passed the remark "What terrible weather for a funeral." Upon reaching home he dropped into a chair, complaining to his wife of difficulty in getting his breath. A few minutes later he was dead of an heart attack.

Frederick William Rowald was born Jan. 25, 1868, in Germany and when 17 years of age came to this country with his parents. He worked on farms in the Wheatland community until his marriage to Elizabeth Homrighausen on March 6, 1906. For eleven years they resided on a farm southeast of Wheatland and then moved to town where Mr. Rowald accepted the position as assistant cashier of the Farmers' Savings bank. He also served as Clinton representative at the state house for two terms.

Surviving are the widow; one son, Alfred of Wheatland; six daughters, Martha of Chicago, Mrs. Eric Kuehl of Utah, Mrs. Myron Monger of Detroit, Mich., Mrs. Ed Doughty of West Virginia and Ruth and Mildred of Davenport; also one brother, Conrad Rowald of Lowden, and four grandchildren. Three sons preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 o'clock Saturday in the home and at 2 o'clock in St. Paul's Evangelical Reformed church. The Rev. A. C. Fischer will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Paul's cemetery.
