Mrs. John Hogan aged 85 years, passed away Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Cavanaugh, with whom she made her home. Mrs. Hogan had only been ill three days. On Saturday last she sustained a paralytic stroke.

Deceased, whose maiden name was Mary Farrell, was born in County West Meath, Ireland, in 1832, came to America in 1850, was married to John Hogan May 17th, 1859, and to this union six children were born, four daughters, Mrs. John Gribbon of Cedar Rapids; Mrs. Marie Brynes of Ames, Ia., Mrs. Henry Martin of Grand Mound, Iowa, Mrs. John Cavanaugh of DeWitt, Ia.; two sons, John of Davenport, Ia., and Nicholas of St. Louis, Mo., all of whom survive, as do several grand and great grand children.

Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at nine o'clock in St. Joseph's church.

Mrs. Mary Hogan was laid to rest yesterday morning in St. Joseph's cemetery, following impressive services held at St. Joseph's church, conducted by Rev. J. J. Nelson and Rev. Cash of DeWitt, Rev. Riordan of Grand Mound, Rev. Lawlor of What Cheer. Those who acted as bearers of the casket were John Cranny, Will Charles and Harry Cavanaugh, Michael Michelson of DeWitt, Phil Tracy of Omaha and Harry Gribbon of Cedar Rapids. The services were very largely attended, many relatives and friends being present to pay their last tributes of respect.
