Antone Giebelstein died Sunday morning at 1:30 o'clock at the home of Fred Smith, 624 Fourth avenue. Death was caused by old age and paralysis.

The deceased was born Nov. ?, 1833 at the island of Fehmarn, in the North Sea, coming to America in 1854. He spent a short time in Davenport and Jackson county working on a farm. Then the great civil war broke out and he followed the call to arms, enlisting as private in Battery "M". Second regiment of Missouri light artillery of volunteers, serving under General Logan. On Oct. 6, 1863 he received an honorary discharge and in the spring of 1862 he obtained a furlough. He then came back to Iowa to visit relatives and on this occasion, was united in marriage with Miss Martha Magel on May 12, 1862.

Three children, one son and two daughters were born to this union; a daughter died fifteen years ago. Mr. GIebelstein had been retired for a number of years, making his home with a daughter, Mrs. Fred Smith. About three years ago, he sustained a severe paralytic stroke which left him blind. A return of the malady caused his death.

Those who survive to mourn his death are a wife, one son, Antone of Sabula, Ia.; and one daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Smith, Clinton; five grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the late home. The Rev. A. H. Lutz of the German Lutheran church will officiate and interment will be made in Springdale cemetery.

A military funeral was held this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock for Antone Giebelstein from the late home, 624 Fourth avenue. The Rev. A. H. Lutz of the German Lutheran church officiated at the services. An escort and bugler were furnished by Company C and the following G.A.R. comrades acted as pallbearers: Peter Mundt, T. C. Bartow, S. M. Lecky, A. R. Hart, W. F. Nixon, and George Drake. Interment was made in Springdale cemetery.
