Grand Mound, Ia. June 1--Another pioneer of this community was claimed by death when early Wednesday morning Geo. Jordan was relieved of all mortal suffering and taken to the Great Beyond after having been a patient invalid for almost two years. Although his death was not unexpected his demise has cast a pall of sorrow over the community.

Decedent was born in St. Andrews, Canada, March 15, 1834, where his early boyhood was spent. From there he moved to Michigan and then to Davenport. He was married to Lucinda Harman on Feb. 24, 1857, at Gilbert Town, and came to Clinton county and to the farm north of town in 1866, where they continued to reside until the spring of 1894, when they retired from farm life and moved to Grand Mound, and at once he became an active worker for the upbuilding of the town. For years he served as a councilman, was superintendent of the water works, treasurer of the Grand Mound Light and Heating Co., and was unanimously elected president of the Peoples' Savings bank when it was organized in the fall of 1900, which office he held at the time of his death.

He is survived by his wife, three daughters and one son, Anna, who cared for him during his illness, Ida M., superintendent of the Deaconess Home of Chicago, Mrs. Adolph Wiese of Clinton, and Dr. M. S. Jordan, a practicing physician of Clinton. He also leaves three grandchildren and one great-grandchild, all of whom realize the passing of a kind and loving Christian husband, father and grandfather.

The funeral was held at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon with services at the M.E. church, Rev. White officiating. Interment was made in Evergreen cemetery beside several departed children who were taken in early childhood.
