11 August 1917 - The Clinton Advertiser page 6

Mrs. L. D. Bennett passed away at Mercy hospital at Davenport yesterday morning at ten o'clock where she had undergone an operation at noon the day before for the removal of gall stones. Mrs. Bennett had been suffering for the past several weeks with jaundice and went to Excelsior Springs accompanied by her daughter in the hope that the waters there would benefit her. She remained there for three weeks and seemed to be much improved and came back as far as the home of her sisters, Mrs. C. E. Johnson, of LeClaire. A specialist in Kansas City and a physician friend of the family, Dr. Lambach of Davenport, both advised an operation and she was taken to the Davenport hospital last Saturday, where the operation was performed as above stated. The patient rallied nicely and rested well throughout Thursday night but at four o'clock yesterday morning a change for the worse came which continued until the end.

Deceased was born in New Orleans, La., and was sixty-seven years of age last March. She married the late L. D. Bennett twenty-one years ago and came to Lyons immediately thereafter where she has ever since made her home. She had endeared herself to a circle of friends during the time she had resided here and was a friend in the truest sense of the word, and to the bereaved daughter, Miss Jessie Vawter is extended the deepest sympathy. She also leaves to mourn her loss in addition to the daughter mentioned above two sisters, Mrs. C. E. Johnson of LeClaire, and Sister Raphael, in the Good Shepherd convent at Kansas City, Mo.

The remains were brought up from Davenport last night at 9:30 o'clock.

The funeral will be held from the late home 419 South Seventh street. St. Irenaeus church Monday morning at 9 o'clock, where a requiem mass will be celebrated and the remains taken to Albany for interment beside her husband the cortege going by auto.
