After an operation performed at Mercy hospital Thursday evening, Daniel Gainey, a resident of this city for about 38 years, passed away at 6:30 this morning.

Deceased was taken to the hospital on Thursday in an unconscious state and suffering from an abscess on the brain and while little hopes were held out for his life, he was operated on during the evening in an effort to ward off the effects of his ailment. The day following the operation he regained consciousness at times and was seemingly improved. However, he passed away this morning.

Daniel Gainey was born in Davenport Oct. 12, 1864, and from there he came to this city, later going to Arkansas, where he was united in marriage to Miss Margaret Kennedy. They returned to this city and have lived here since that time. Mr. Gainey was a railroad man, employed in the construction of bridges, and has many friends in railroad circles who will mourn his death.

Surviving him are his wife and three children, Mrs. Phil Plunkett, Miss Edna and LeRoy, also four brothers in Davenport, also a sister of that city, and another sister is Lisbon, Iowa.

Funeral arrangements have not been completed pending the arrival of relatives of the deceased.

Funeral services for the late Daniel Gainey were held this morning at 9 o'clock from St. Irenaeus church, with burial made in Calvary cemetery. Father Comerford said a requiem high mass.

The pallbearers were J. P. Cahill, T. J. Hudson, Peter Slowie, C. W. Cawley, Thomas Lee and John Dever, Sr.

The following were in attendance at the funeral from out of town: Mr. and Mrs. Ed Burns, Lisbon, Ia.; Mrs. Harvey Whitcomb, Davenport; John, David, Patrick and William Gainey, Davenport; Rose Russell, Mt. Vernon; Mr. and Mrs. Phil Plunkett, Fulton; Miss Rose Bulger, Elgin.
