Michael Spellissy died here at 8 a.m. today of pneumonia at the age of 91. He had been ill for some time. Mr. Spellissy was a native Iowan and had lived in the county many years.

He is survived by two sons and four daughters, James B. of Boone, Ia.; M. J. Jr., of DeWitt; Mrs. William Hanrahan of Scott county; Mrs. Michael Flannery of DeWitt, and Ella and Polly Spellissy at home. Funeral arrangements have not yet been made, but it is known that services will be held in St. Joseph's church of which Mr. Spellissy was a prominent member.

Michael Spellisy, one of the oldest and best respected citizens of this community, died at his home five miles north of DeWitt, at 8 o'clock Thursday morning, Feb. 4, 1915. He was over 91 years of age and death was caused by the infirmities of old age, being confined to his bed for ten days previous to his death. Deceased was born near Clare, Ireland, Feb. 19th, 1823. When a young man he went to seek his fortune amid the gold fields of Australia, where he remained for about ten years. He was married in that country to Mary Brown, with whom he has traveled life's road for so many years through sunshine and shadow. her loving heart and willing hands have done all that was possible for his comfort to the very last.

Michael Spellisy came to DeWitt, Iowa, from Australia and has been a resident of Clinton county for over forty years, having lived on the farm north of this city that he purchased soon after his arrival in Iowa. He is survived by his bereaved wife, three sons and five daughters, Thomas B. of Colorado, Mrs. M. T. Flannery, DeWitt, Iowa, Mary and Ella at home, Mrs. Will Hanrahan, Long Grove, Ia., Anna, of Minneapolis, Minn., Michael Jr. at home and James J. at Boone, Iowa. A son, John, died in infancy. The funeral services were held in St. Joseph's church Saturday at 10 and Requiem High Mass was celebrated by the pastor, Rev. J. J. Nelson, assisted by Father Coughlin and Father Riordan of Grand Mound, Ia. The funeral was very largely attended by the friends and neighbors of the deceased. Interment was made in St. Joseph's cemetery. The pallbearers were Peter Troy, P. F. Mangan, John McDevit, P. G. Garrity, John Red and P. E. Flannery.
