Joseph Mayer, aged about 80 years, died at his home, 801 South Fifth street, at 4:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon. Death was due to pneumonia, which he contracted about two weeks ago. The deceased has been in failing health for the past seven years, but has only been confined to his bed for about two weeks.

Deceased was born in Wurtemburg, Germany, July 11, 1835, and came to this country 61 years ago, settling in Jackson county, where he was united in marriage to Louisa Gundlefinger, January 29th, 1859. Fifty years ago they came to Lyons, where they have lived ever since. He was a highly respected citizen. His death, though expected, is a shock to his aged wife and children, who have the sympathy of scores of friends.

Left to mourn his death is his aged wife and six daughters: Mrs. J. F. Nichols, Mrs. Nicholas Milan, Mrs. Henry Goettsche, Mrs. Philip Rehman and Mrs. W. C. Cole of this city, and Mrs. Frank Grimm of Rochelle, Louisiana, who is expected to arrive to in this city today.

The funeral will be held Thursday morning at 9 o'clock from his late home on South Fifth street to St. Boniface church, where requiem high mass will be celebrated by Rev. Joseph Tritz at 9 o'clock. Burial will be made in Oakland cemetery.

The funeral of the late Joseph Mayer was held at 9 o'clock this morning from his home on South Fifth street to St. Boniface church where requiem high mass was celebrated by Rev. Joseph Tritz. There were many beautiful floral offerings. The pall bearers were Clem Krumplemann, John Rehman, Max Hauber, Joe Miller, John Tancik and John Newhause.

Interment was made in Oakland cemetery.

Mrs. Frank Grimm of Rochelle, La. arrived in the city yesterday morning to attend the funeral.
