DeWitt, Iowa, March 31--Daniel Whyte passed away at his home in Idaho, a message to that effect having been received by relatives near DeWitt. The remains will be brought here for burial and the funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the U.P. church, followed by burial in the Elmwood cemetery. Deceased was formerly a resident of this vicinity and is survived by his wife, two brothers, Alex and Joseph, and four sisters, Lillian, Elizabeth, Helen and Belle, who reside southwest of town.

The funeral of the late Daniel Whyte was held Tuesday afternoon at the United Presbyterian church and was conducted by the pastor, Rev. W. H. Anderson. Friends who acted as bearers of the pall were Messrs. J. A. Hannum, Joseph Howart, R. M. Smith, R. L. Baldwin, W. J. Cameron and Henry Siefert.

Appropriate music was furnished by H. O. Cranston and Misses Frances Fish, Edith Cranston and Nona Lambertson. Interment was made in Elmwood cemetery.

Daniel Whyte died at his home in Payette, Idaho, March 29, 1917 at the age of 60 years and 6 weeks. He was born February 14, 1857 in Komoka, Ontario Canada, and at the age of five years came with his parents Duncan and Lily Fisher Whyte to DeWitt, Iowa, where he grew to manhood sharing the hardships of pioneer days. He joined the United Presbyterian church of DeWitt, Ia. at the age of eighteen under the pastorate of Rev. David Nicoll and has continued a member of that denomination being an elder at Ontario, Oregon, their church home.

In his early manhood he heard the call to the great Northwest and spent a few years at Whitsburg, Wash., but settled at Albany, Ore. where he lived some years. From there he moved to Payette, where was engaged in horticulture.

December 8, 1909, he was married to Captain Hall's daughter, Fannie, who survived him. He also leaves a brother, Alex F. and sister Lillian at the DeWitt home, a brother Joseph of Omaha and three sisters, Elizabeth, Belle and Helene of Chicago.

He was a man of genial Christian character widely read and interested in the rapid development of his locality.
