As a result of bichloride of mercury tablets, taken by mistake, Miss Ruby Miles, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Miles of 216 North Second street, died Wednesday afternoon shortly after 4 o'clock at Mercy hospital, where she has been since Saturday, all efforts to save her life from the effects of the deadly poison having been in vain.
Miss Miles was first taken sick on Tuesday night, April 10, and took the pills during the night, thinking they would relieve her. The bichloride antiseptic pills had been in the house for the use of a brother of the deceased, who was suffering from blood poison in one finger. After realizing her mistake, she awakened her mother and told her what she had done. Mrs. Miles summoned medical aid and it was thought that the girl was improving until Saturday, when her condition was more dangerous, and she was removed to the hospital for treatment. She failed steadily until Wednesday afternoon, when she succumbed to the poison which had affected her entire system.
The deceased was born in this city April 9, 1900, and attended the Lyons schools, graduating from the Grammar school about a year ago. Since that time she had been making her home here, and her many friends will be grieved to learn of her sudden death. She is survived by her parents; also two brothers, Joseph and Lawrence, and the following sisters: Mrs. George Pringle, of Chicago; Mrs. Henry Johannsen, of this city; Mrs. H. West, of New Orleans, La.; Mrs. Mark Meader of this city; Mrs. Dalfus, of Chicago; Mrs. Harvey Fatchett of this city, and Miss Lotta, at home.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday afternoon from the home, 216 North Second street, at 2:30 o'clock and burial is to be made in Oakland cemetery.
