A Veteran Iowa Editor Dies.
E. H. Thayer, the veteran editor of the Clinton Age, died on Monday last, at the age of 72 years. He was born in Maine, and came to Iowa and located in Muscatine, expecting to practice law but drifted into newspaper work and in 1868 went to Clinton and established the “Age.” All his life he was an active democrat, and was honored by his party as much as it could. Once a candidate for Congress, often a delegate to State Conventions and a platform writer, twice to national conventions, a member of the 16th Iowa General Assembly, for sev¬ral years a trustee of the State Normal School, and served as president of its board, postmaster in Cleveland's first term. But he did not agree with Brvan on the silver issue. The state loses one of its vigorous writers, and a man who was respected by all who knew him.Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he is buried in Springdale Cemetery and that he was born November 27, 1832 and died November 7, 1904.
