Grand Mound, Iowa, March 30--Death called another old resident, when on Wednesday morning at 7 o'clock the aged Mrs. Carl Behnk who had been an invalid for more than a year, answered the final summons. She had been ill with a complication of diseases and a most patient sufferer, ever since her husband's death last April, and although death came as a relief to her earthly pain, it also came as a shock to those surviving her.
The deceased was born in Grube Germany April 29, 1834. She was married to her deceased husband in 1854, and came to America in 1884, direct to Orange township, Clinton county, Iowa, living on a farm south of Grand Mound until 1905 when they sold their farm, and moved to Grand Mound to enjoy ease and comfort in their declining years.
To mourn her loss she leaves three sons, Fritz and Carl at home, Henry living near Davenport and two daughters, Mrs. Chas. Smith, southeast of town and Mrs. Lena Panka of Rock Island, 23 grandchildren and 5 great grand children and one brother, Henry Frank of Arcadia and one sister, Mrs. Fritz Simon of Aspinwall, Iowa.
Deceased was a kind and loving mother and a most highly esteemed friend and neighbor, whose loss will be keenly felt. The entire community extend sympathy to this ones bereft.
A large concourse of friends assembled at the German Lutheran church this afternoon to pay a last respect to the deceased. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. L. Eshbach after which interment was made beside her departed husband in Evergreen cemetery. Undertaker J. W. Kelly had charge. Six of her grandsons acted as pallbearers.
