Mrs. J. H. Barnum, 70 years old a resident of Clinton for the last 35 years, died Saturday night in Long Beach, Calif., according to telegrams received today by friends in this city.

Mrs. Barnum has been in poor health the last four years, and had been spending her winters in California. She left Clinton last November. There had come no word of her illness and the news of her death came as a shock to her many friends here.

Her companion, Mrs. Odenthal, will leave Long Beach with the body Wednesday morning and will probably arrive here next Saturday night or Sunday. The arrangements for the funeral have not been sent, but it is believed that Mrs. Barnum will be taken on to her home at Wallingford, Vt. for burial.

One son survives his mother. He is Howard Barnum of Kansas City.

Deceased was about 70 years of age and was very well known here, having lived here for a number of years during which time her husband, J. H. Barnum, who died some years ago, was a director of the First National bank.
