Joseph Book, aged 87 years, a former resident of Clinton and a veteran of the civil war, is dead at the Iowa Soldiers' Home in Marshalltown.

Mr. Book had been an inmate of the soldiers' home since last October. His death occurred Thursday evening, following a stroke of paralysis.

The deceased served with Company B Second Iowa infantry, during the war. He was the father of Mrs. Stephen Point of this city.

The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon from the Soldier's Home, with burial in Marshalltown.

Maquoketa, Iowa, Feb. 26--Joseph Book, an old veteran, who died at the Soldiers' Home, Marshalltown, Washington's birthday and his remains were brought here yesterday at East Iron Hill. He was 87 years, 8 months old, when paralysis carried him off. Rev. Dixon officiated at funeral and he was interred in E. Iron Hill cemetery.
