page 5Lost Nation, Ia. Feb 23--Word was received Wednesday noon that R. M. Willard, who has been sick with typhoid fever, passed away that forenoon at his home at Huron, S.D. Although aware of his serious illness, the news was a great shock to his many friends in this vicinity. The local Masonic lodge, of which he was a long-time member, sent W. C. Rutenbeck as a representative to attend the funeral, and also sent a beautiful floral offering. R. M. Willard was born and raised in this neighborhood and was prominent in social and business circles in Lost Nation for many years, having held the office of postmaster for sixteen consecutive years and was also prominently identified with several different business enterprises. He was a public-spirited man in every sense of the word, and was held in the highest esteem by those who knew him. He was 53 years old Feb. 7th of this year. He leaves a wife, two brothers and one sister. The funeral will be held Friday at Huron, with interment at the same place.
