Borne to its last resting place by eight little schoolmates, the body of Thomas Malone, 9 years old, was buried in Springdale cemetery Tuesday afternoon, after impressive services held at the home of the lad's parents. The Rev. Dr. Burrell of St. John's Episcopal church officiated, preaching a beautiful and comforting sermon.

Tommy was a bright scholar from the Kirkwood school. During the funeral the room at the Oak street building was quiet, and the children filed in a double row at the house for the procession to pass. The flag above the building floated at half mast, testifying to true grief that has been felt among the school children because of the death of their little comrade.

Fourteen boys from the little fellow's classes acted as pall bearers, all of them active, and eight honorary. They were Robert Brown, Blair Sloppy, Frank Sloppy, Richard Swanson, Tommy Perryman, Frank Bohnsen, Joe Titus, Lewis Hagen, Harold Yeger, Leonard Krebs, Leonard Kain, Roy Lisk, Francis True, Lester Benson.

Thomas Malone was Kirkwood's George Washington. He was born February 22, 1907, and was a favorite with the children of the school who mourn with his parents and brothers and sisters.
