page 6Mrs. Arthur Brown, a local colored woman, dropped dead this afternoon at the home of Mrs. O. Ocker, 846 Sixth avenue, whither she had gone to petition the Benevolent Society, of which Mrs. Ocker is an officer, for assistance.
The death of Mrs. Brown occurred shortly after one o'clock today. She had just arrived at the Ocker residence, and was sitting down talking when she complained of feeling faint, and asked Mrs. Ocker for a drink of water. The request was complied with, but when Mrs. Ocker returned with the water she found the colored woman in a state of collapse. Investigation showed that she was dead.
Coroner Kellogg was immediately notified of the circumstances, and conducted an investigation this afternoon. He deiced that death was due to an attack of heart failure, and an inquest will not be necessary.
The remains of Mrs. Brown were conveyed to a local undertaking establishment and prepared for burial.
