Mrs. Katherine Steiner, one of the oldest of Clinton county's residents, passed away at one o'clock this morning at her home, 1018 North Second street, after a short illness.

The deceased, nee Katherine Simmons, was born in Germany, on August 14, 1835, and came to America in 1853. She was married at Albany, N.Y., in 1854, to Gerhardt Steiner, who died in September, 1904. They came to Lyons in 1856, and lived there for over 30 years. Mr. Steiner was a stonemason, and assisted in the erection of the first Catholic church in Lyons. The family then removed to Charlotte, where they made their home for a few years before coming in 1905 to Clinton, where Mrs. Steiner had since resided.

Nine sons and daughters survive the deceased, one son, Willing, having passed away in 1902. Surviving members of the family are John Steiner of Clinton, Mrs. Fred Schlotfeldt, of DeWitt, Mrs. William Thiesen of Stanwood, Mrs. O. Haves of Maquoketa, Fred Steiner of Clinton, Joseph Steiner of Wheatland, Mrs. Arthur Monohan of Charlotte, Nick Steiner of Charlotte, and Mrs. A. A. Sutton of this city.

The funeral will be held Wednesday. Complete arrangements were not announced today.
