Lost Nation, Iowa, June 8--Jacob H. Seyfert, son of Joseph and Hannah Seyfert, was born in Berk's County Pennsylvania, April 1st, 1838. He lived in this community until he came to Iowa in 1870, located near Maquoketa where he lived and reared his family in that vicinity. His marriage to Miss Josephine Elizabeth Buteman of Hamburg, Pa. was May 16, 1861. To them were born nine children, of whom Mary died Dec. 23, 1890 and those living are: Joseph, Mrs. Sadie Edleman and Miss Anna of Lost Nation, Miss Emma of Rock Falls, Wyoming, Charles of Delmar, Henry of Valley Junction, Iowa, Louis of Denver, Colo., and Mrs. Hannah Blakesley of Maquoketa. March 3, 1916 he sold his beautiful home near Delmar and moved to Lost Nation where he planned to spend his last years in full retirement with his wife and children. He was a genial, conciliatory disposition, in all the years of his long life he did not have a lawsuit with any man. He was a good citizen, a desirable neighbor, a kind faithful husband, a loving father and will be missed in all the circles in which he moved and in the home where he loved to be. About 5 years ago, he and his estimable wife celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary, all the children and grandchildren being at home on this happy occasion, the last time they were all together until today's sad obsequie. His stay in Lost Nation was short, his strength waning for some years, but the end was not expected so soon. Saturday, June 3 at 5:45 he was in the midst of dressing, his strength gave away and he passed into eternal rest, at the age of 78 years 2 months and 2 days. He was the last of a family of six sons and two daughters to go. Besides his wife and family, nine grandchildren, and other relatives a host of friends and neighbors mourn the passing of a loved father, husband, friend and neighbor. Tuesday at the home a prayer was given, the funeral services held at the Union church near Maquoketa, Rev. Boomershine officiating. A large number of friends and neighbors attended to pay their last tribute to the departed and their sympathy to the living. The floral offerings were numerous and beautiful. Mesdames Wilson and Staak sang beautifully the songs that comfort. Interment was made in the Union cemetery at Maquoketa.
