DAVID REIMERS DROWNS WHILE IN SWIMMING
ACCIDENT HAPPENED AT 3:30 ABOVE STAMP VENDING WORKS
BODY RECOVERED IN EVENING
Funeral to Be Held Tuesday afternoon from St. John's Lutheran Church.

David Reimers, aged 16 years, was drowned Saturday afternoon in the Mississippi river, above the Stamp Vending Machine company's plant, while in swimming.

The accident happened about 3:30 o'clock. Young Reimers, in company with three other boys, went to the river at 3 o'clock to go swimming. About fifteen minutes later he stepped into the water, which happened to be over his head. He yelled and went down. The other companions made an effort to save him but failed. One of the boys grabbed his arm but he broke away from him and went to his death.

The boys hurried to the shore and notified his parents and several searching parties were formed. The river about the scene of the drowning was dragged and at 9 o'clock in the evening the body was recovered from the water by A. L. Meyers. Coroner Kellogg was notified, but found that no inquest was necessary. The body was then taken to the undertaking establishment of M. H. Borman, and prepared for burial, and was later removed to the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Reimers, of North nine street, from which place the funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon. Short services will be held at 2 o'clock at the house by Rev. Hugo Grimm, and then to St. John's Lutheran church, where the funeral sermon will be preached.

David Reimers was born Feb. 16, 1900, in Lyons, where he grew to boyhood, attending the Lyons public schools. He was baptized and confirmed in St. John's Lutheran church March 28, 1916, and was a member of the Young People's Society. A sad incident in connection with the death is the fact that Mr. Reimers suffered a paralytic stroke about two weeks ago and was rendered speechless.

Besides his parents, he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Richard Vencke of Davenport and Martha, at home, and five brothers, Hugo of Low Moore, Carl of Lyons, Otto of Joliet, Emil of Bettendorf and Alfred of near Bryant.
