Milo J. John, one of Clinton's old and respected citizens, passed away at 12:10 o'clock this afternoon at his home, 411 seventh avenue, death following an illness which commenced last June.

For many years Mr. John was in the drug business in Clinton. He was born in Springfield, Ohio, on July 28, 1856, the son of Howard D. and Eliza Powell John, his ancestors having been old settlers of Virginia, of Welsh descent.

The deceased attended the public schools at Springfield, later taking a course in Wittenburg college, in that city. He then entered the drug business in Springfield, where he remained three and one-half years, later following the same business in Columbus Ohio, and for another year in Springfield, before coming to Clinton in 1884. He entered into partnership here with George Bacon, the two conducting a drug store at the corner of Fifth avenue and Third street under the firm name of John & Bacon.

After four years Mr. John sold his interest and went to Des Moines. About four years later he returned to Clinton and with John Smith and H. E. Byrum, organized the Clinton Fruit and Produce Company. In 1896 Mr. John bought his old business in the former stand, and since then has conducted that business.

Mr. John was at one time a director and vice president of the Tri-City Telephone Company. He was prominent in Masonic circles, having been a member of Emulation Lodge, Keystone Chapter, Holy Cross Commandery, and Cincinnati Consistory, A.A.S.R. He also was a member of the military order of the Loyal Legion.

On October 20, 1887, Mr. John was united in marriage with Maude Thayer, daughter of Judge E. H. Thayer. His wife and two children, Dorette and Edward, survive him.

Mr. John was a progressive, public spirited citizen and his death will be mourned by a wide circle of friends in Clinton.

Funeral services for the late Milo J. John, who died yesterday noon, will be held Friday morning at 10 o'clock from his late home, 411 Seventh avenue. Services will be conducted by Dean F. H. Burrell, pastor of St. John's Episcopal church. Interment will be made in Springdale.

Impressive funeral services were held this morning at 10 o'clock for the late Milo J. John at his home, 411 Seventh avenue. Many friends gathered at the home to pay a last respect to the deceased.

The services were conducted by Dean F. H. Burrell, pastor of St. John's Episcopal church. He gave an eloquent address. Rose Croix chapter of the Masons conducted the services at Springdale cemetery.

The pallbearers were Messrs. Dr. T. F. Molt, W. S. Gardner, J. Q. Jeffries, J. D. Van Allen, J. H. Ingwersen and A. H. Hawley. Out of town friends here for the funeral were Mrs. W. J. Hosford of Iowa City, Miss Mary Richard of Moline, and Mrs. Thomas Cassidy of Moline.
