page 3Miss Lucy Martensen, formerly of this city, was burned to death in Denver, Colo., according to word received in this city. The remains will be brought to Clinton, arriving in the city Thursday morning, and the funeral will probably be Thursday morning at 10 o'clock.
Miss Martensen was polishing the floor with varnish and was using a lighted candle, the varnish exploded, setting fire to her clothing. The accident happened on April 7th, and she died on April 11th, age 21 years. She was born and raise in Clinton, receiving her education in the Clinton public schools. She was also a member of the German Zion Lutheran church, and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Martensen, now of Dixon, Ill. Miss Martensen left last October for Denver for an extended visit with her brother, Fred Martensen. The deceased had many friends in this city who will be grieved to learn of her sad death.
