John Phillips, veteran of the civil war, passed away at his home, 410 North First street, Thursday evening at 9 o'clock. Funeral services are to be held Sunday afternoon at the late residence at 4:30 o'clock. Rev. F. P. Fisher, pastor of the Lyons Methodist church, is to officiate at the services at the home and the G. A. R. will have charge of the burial services at Springdale cemetery.
Mr. Phillips was 68 years of age and was born in Germany, coming to this country when a boy. He enlisted from Dubuque county iowa in the Civil war in Company C, Fifth Iowa cavalry. He leaves to mourn his death his wife and four children, Mary, John, Henry and Emma, all residing at home and two sons, children of his first wife, Fred and Oscar, both residing in Clinton.

Commander B. P. Baldwin and Adjutant George Drake of General N. B. Baker post, No. 88, G. A. R. have issued the following order: "The members of Gen. N. B. Baker post, No. 88, G. A. R. are requested to meet at 410 North First street, Sunday, September 7, at 4:30 p.m. to attend the funeral of our late comrade, John Phillips.

Funeral services for the late John Phillips, veteran of the civil war, were held Sunday afternoonat 4:30 o'clock at the late residence 419 North First street. Rev. F. P. Fisher, pastor of the Lyons Methodist church, officiated at the services at the residence and the G. A. R. had charge of the burial services at Springdale cemetery. The pall-bearers were members from the Gen. N. B. Baker post No. 88 G. A. R. and were F. M. Locke, George Saxton, Thomas Bartow, George Dalrymple, Daniel Buckley and Dr. C. F. Kellogg.
