Grand Mound, Ia., April 28--Another old citizen was called to his last reward on last Tuesday night when death claimed for its own the aged Carl Behnk, Sr., after an illness of many months with asthma complications.

The deceased was born June 26, 1832, at Nedkirchen, Mecklenburg, Germany, and was married there on November 6th, 1854 to Miss Christina Kuchel. To this union were born seven children, two dying in infancy in Germany. Those surviving besides the aged mother, who has been an invalid for several months are Fritz and Carl, at home; Mrs. Chas. Smith, southeast of town; Henry of Davenport, and Mrs. Fritz Paukow of Rock Island, Ill.

The family came to America in June, 1884, coming direct to Clinton county and settling on a farm south of town. Ten years ago they moved to Grand Mound to spend their declining years in ease and comfort.

Mr. Behnk was an upright, honorable citizen, a kind and loving husband and father and he bore his intense suffering with great Christian fortitude. Besides his wife and children he leaves 21 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, besides innumerable friends and neighbors whose sincere sympathy is extended to the bereft ones. The funeral will be held this afternoon at 2 o'clock at Evergreen cemetery, with services at the late home, conducted by Rev. L. Eschbach. The pallbearers were his six grandsons, Carl Behnk of Davenport, Chas. Smith of this place, Carl, Hans, Walter and Arthur Losand of Rock Island. Undertaker John W. Kelley was funeral director.
