Delmar, Ia., June 12--Taken suddenly ill at his home, P. H. Canty, one of the oldest business men in Delmar, died here shortly after 1 o'clock Sunday morning.

Apoplexy is said to have been the cause of his death. Although Mr. Canty had been in ill health during the major part of the spring, a six weeks trip to Excelsior Springs, he declared a short time ago, had practically restored his strength, and the sudden death was a heavy blow to the community.

Mr. Canty entered business at Delmar when the town was first founded and had become one of the most prominent business men in this section of the county. He was over 70 years old, but, to the last, maintained a clear mind and continued to manage his business affairs as usual.

Surviving are his wife and the following children:Edward of Delmar, Mrs. Ellen Foley of Delmar, Mrs. James Smith of Rockton, Ill., Grace Canty of Des Moines, Martha Canty of Delmar, and Leonard of Delmar.

The funeral will be held at Delmar Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock, Father O'Reilly officiating.
